Police arrested and charged 31-year-old George A. Labrador of Hilo with burglary and theft offenses.
At 9:22 a.m. Sunday, patrol officers responded to a burglary of a business in the 200 block of Waianuenue Avenue in Hilo.
Officers were able to identify Labrador as a suspect and link items taken in the burglary to him.
Labrador was charged with burglary during an emergency period, theft of a credit card and unlawful possession of confidential personal information.
Because of enhanced penalties connected with Gov. David Ige’s COVID-19 emergency proclamation, the burglary offense is a Class B felony carrying a potential 10-year prison sentence upon conviction.
During Labrador’s initial court appearance Monday, Hilo District Judge Bruce Larson maintained his bail at $40,000 and ordered him to appear for a preliminary hearing at 2 p.m. today.
