Chad Kalepa Baybayan, 65, of Kailua-Kona died April 8 in Seattle. Born on Oahu and raised in Lahaina, Maui, Baybayan was a pwo (master) navigator and captain of the Polynesian Voyaging Society canoe Hokule‘a, educator and resident navigator at ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center of Hawaii and ramp agent for United Airlines. Visitation 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Thursday (May 6) at Dodo Mortuary. COVID-19 testing, screening, masking and social distancing will be in place. Private services will be held in consideration of COVID-19 precautions. The services will be broadcast online and can be accessed via hokulea.com. Scattering of ashes in Lahaina at a later date. Survived by wife, Audrey Kaide Baybayan; daughters, Pa‘anakala (Daniel) Tanaka and Pukanala (Bradley) Llanes; son, ‘Aukai (Justynne) Baybayan; mother, Lillian Suter; brothers, Clayton Baybayan, Lyle Baybayan and Theodore Suter; sister, Sister Ann Marie; six grandchildren. Hisae Kano, 90, of Hilo died April 22 at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born in Kona, she was a seamstress for Hilo Hatties and member of Honpa Hongwangi Hilo Betsuin. Private services. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by brother, Henry (Lavonne) Kuga; sisters, Helen (Walter) Narahara and Emelia (Jim) Halling; cousins and grandnephews.
