Born on Oahu and raised in Lahaina, Maui, Baybayan was a pwo (master) navigator and captain of the Polynesian Voyaging Society canoe Hokule‘a, educator and resident navigator at ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center of Hawaii and ramp agent for United Airlines.
