Police arrested three Captain Cook men after a reported hit-and-run incident in the parking lot of a business establishment in the 75-5800 block of Alii Drive shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday.

The victims, two 19-year-old men and a 29-year-old man, reportedly told police that the suspects — later identified as 32-year-old Donoven Pogtis, 19-year-old Landon Pogtis and 20-year-old Todd Cabanlet — physically assaulted the three victims.

The suspects then allegedly took the car the victims were in and returned to the scene, where they struck one of the victims with his own vehicle before hitting another vehicle and a building.

The 29-year-old victim was taken by ambulance to Kona Community Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries and later released.

Neither of the 19-year-old victims were seriously injured.

Just after 3 a.m. on Sunday, the suspects turned themselves in to police.

Donoven Pogtis was charged with attempted second-degree murder, unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle in the first-degree, auto theft, first-, second- and third-degree assault, first-degree terroristic threatening, reckless driving, leaving the scene of the accident, and failure to give information and render aid.

His bail was set at $63,800, and he’s scheduled for an initial appearance today in Kona District Court.

Todd Cabanlet was charged with second-degree terroristic threatening and two counts of third-degree assault.

His bail was set $1,500, which he apparently posted, as the Hawaii Judiciary website doesn’t have his case or a court appearance listed for him.

Landon Pogtis was released pending further investigation.

Witnesses or anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the police nonemergency line at 935-3311 or Crime Stoppers at 961-8300.
