Mabel Catherine Pacheco, 90, of Hilo died Nov. 12 at Hawaii Care Choice Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Hilo, she served St. Joseph Schools and Church for more than seven decasdes as a physical education teacher, secretary, security supervisor and custodial supervisor, was a volleyball, basketball and softball athlete at Hilo High School, where she graduated in 1948, played on the Leialoha teams of Keaukaha, and was the first woman inducted into the Big Island Sports Hall of Fame in 2000.
