During the week of Nov. 8-Nov. 14, Hawaii Island police arrested 24 motorists for DUI. Three of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. None were under the age of 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, 13; Puna, four; South Kohala and South Hilo, three each; and North Kohala, one.
So far this year, there have been 948 DUI arrests compared to 853 during the same period last year, an increase of 11.1%.
There have been 697 major accidents so far this year compared with 678 during the same period last year, an increase of 2.8%.
To date, there have been 24 official fatalities, compared with 14 for the same time last year, an increase of 71.4%.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
