Born in Hilo, he was a retired National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Joint Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Research Mauna Loa Observatory maintenance and operations technician/research associate, machinist/welder for Aloha Machine and Welding and the former Hilo Iron Works, and had worked for The United Kingdom Infrared Telescope, the former Hilo Coast Processing and Puna Sugar companies, was captain/owner of the fishing vessel “Ocean Warrior”, shooting sports enthusiast, gun collector, founding member of Big Island Gun Club, life member of National Rifle Association and member of Granders Club.
