During the week of Nov. 29-Dec. 5, Hawaii Island police arrested 13 motorists for DUI. Four of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. Two were younger than 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, seven; South Hilo, four; Puna and South Kohala, one each.
So far this year, there have been 992 DUI arrests compared to 927 during the same period last year. This is an increase of 7%.
There have been 748 major accidents so far this year compared to 726 during the same period last year, an increase of 3%.
To date, there have been 25 official traffic fatalities, compared to 15 fatalities for the same time last year, an increase of 66.7%.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
