24th annual Sayre awards fundraiser canceled due to COVID

The Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Foundation announced the 24th annual Awards and Fund-Raising Dinner honoring the Hawaii Fire Department Meritorious Service Award recipients will not be held on Sept. 4 this year at the Fairmont Orchid due to the continued spread of the coronavirus. This is the second year the gala has been cancelled because of the pandemic.

Oahu teen shot by police had pellet gun inside car

HONOLULU — A pellet gun that looked like a firearm was found in a car driven by a 16-year-old boy in Hawaii, a police evidence specialist testified Tuesday in an ongoing hearing to determine whether there is probable cause of murder and attempted murder charges against three officers in the teen’s shooting death.
