Police: Elderly man assaulted, robbed in his Pepeekeo home

Police are investigating a violent home invasion robbery that occurred Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, officers responded shortly after 4:30 p.m. to a reported armed robbery at an Alakahi Place residence in Pepeekeo, where the 81-year-old victim said two men entered his home, grabbed him from behind, detained and physically assaulted him.

The assailants stole a firearm owned by the victim, his cellphone, wallet, and an undisclosed amount of money.

The victim called 911 from a neighbor’s home. He was treated by Hawaii Fire Department medics for injuries to his neck and face, but his symptoms later worsened and he was transported via ambulance to Hilo Medical Center, where he remains in intensive care.

The suspects were described as “local,” possibly in their 20’s. One was wearing a jacket. It’s unknown if they left the area on foot or in a vehicle.

They should be considered armed and dangerous.
