Fire damaged a two-story home on Kawailani Street between Kinoole Street and Kimo Place in Hilo Thursday evening.
According to a Hawaii Fire Department statement, eight units responded to the 8:10 p.m. alarm.
The first unit arrived seven minutes later, to find the second story 25-30% involved in flames with heavy smoke throughout the top floor and coming out of the bedroom window.
The fire was brought under control at 8:52 p.m. and extinguished at 9:18 p.m.
Two residents self-evacuated to a neighboring property and no injuries were reported.
There were no damage estimates provided and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
A portion of Kawailani Street was closed by police, and traffic was re-routed to Haihai and Puainako streets.
