Albert “Baer” Mitsuru Ikeda, 89, of Kealakekua died March 21 at Hospice of Kona’s Nakamaru Hale. Manuel “Manning” “Pops” Sarme, 86, formerly of Papaikou, died Jan. 27 in Hilo. Born in Pepeekeo, he was a retired mason, U.S. Marine Corps veteran, well-known boxer, head coach of Papaikou CYO Boxing Club, fisherman, taught coconut weaving at Big Island schools and was a member of the American Legion, Hilo Hospice Grieving Group and assistant trainer for AP Boxing.
