Clean sweep at Merrie Monarch for Kauai halau
Halau Ka Lei Mokihana O Leina‘ala, under the direction of kumu hula Leina‘ala Pavao Jardin, made it a clean sweep Saturday night at the 59th Annual Merrie Monarch Festival.
The halau from Kalaheo, Kauai took first place in wahine hula kahiko (ancient hula), wahine hula ‘auana (modern hula), and wahine overall — and also claimed the Lokalia Montgomery Perpetual Trophy as the overall winner. In fact, the top three overall halau in the group hula competition were all wahine.
