Over 900 new COVID cases for Hawaii County

An additional 8,124 new COVID-19 cases were reported statewide over the last seven days, a decrease from the 8,924 cases reported last week.

Hawaii County reported an additional 966 new cases this week, also a decrease from the 1,102 reported last week.

Despite the decreases in overall case numbers, the state’s 7-day average of new cases rose from 1,098 last week to 1,210 this week, the 10th consecutive weekly increase.

Of the six new deaths reported throughout the state, none came from Hawaii County.

According to Department of Health data, the new statewide active case count over the past 14-day period is 15,826, an increase of almost 1,000 new cases from the week prior.

For Hilo’s 96720 ZIP code, there have been 670 new cases over the past 14-day period, an increase of 30 cases from the week prior.

With six new deaths throughout the state, the death toll from the pandemic is 1,418.

According to the Department of Education, there have been a total of 1,108 cases reported throughout the 257 public schools between May 21 and May 30, a decrease of over 1,000 cases from the week before.

Of the Big Island schools, Keonepoko Elementary School reported the highest number with 14 current cases, followed by Waiakea Intermediate School, which reported 10 current cases.
