Hilo man arrested with drug, theft offenses

Police arrested and charged a 53-year-old Hilo man with drug and theft offenses, including attempted methamphetamine distribution.

Officers responded at about 4:40 p.m. Sunday to a report of a theft in progress involving a female and male accomplice in the 110 block of East Puainako Street.

Anthony Hatori was subsequently arrested for being an accomplice to fourth-degree theft and on two outstanding warrants.

During the course of their investigation, officers conducted a pat-down search of Hatori and discovered 5.45 grams of crystal methamphetamine, additional drug paraphernalia, and $935 in cash, police said.

The recovered drugs have an estimated street value of $250. The cash was seized for forfeiture.

Hatori was charged Monday with first-, second- and third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug and being an accomplice to fourth-degree theft.

His bail was set at $87,700, and he was scheduled to make his initial appearance Tuesday in Hilo District Court.
