The Zonta Club of Hilo recently awarded $15,000 in scholarships, according to scholarship chair Nina Buchanan.
The Women’s Nursing Degree Scholarship recipients from University of Hawaii at Hilo are Alyssa Faletoi ($1,000), Darah Olaso ($1,000) and Ashley Rynkewicz ($1,000).
The Women’s Nursing Degree Scholarship recipients from Hawaii Community College are Franchesca Campbell ($1,000), Allison Enomoto ($1,000) and Rachael Meisner ($1,000).
The Barbra An Pleadwell Scholarship recipient is Harmony Ahin-Ganir ($5,000).
The Jane M. Klausman (JMK) Women in Business Scholarship recipient is Lindsay Emerson ($1,400).
The Young Woman in Public Affairs (YWPA) award recipients are Denby Nagata ($1,200), Lehia Coloma ($1,000), Misty Cruden ($500) and Mia Tulang ($300).
“Thank you so much for your generosity and kindness,” wrote Nagata in a thank you card. “Your donation will help my family and me greatly in covering the cost of tuition. I will push myself and do my best to make you all proud.”
Emerson and Nagata, the top winners in the JMK and YWPA categories, have been advanced from the club level to compete for additional awards and scholarships at the district and international level of Zonta.
