The Big Island Chapter of the Hawaii Association of Public Accountants, or HAPA, recently awarded five scholarships totaling $3,500 to five students pursuing accounting degrees.
The Big Island Chapter of the Hawaii Association of Public Accountants, or HAPA, recently awarded five scholarships totaling $3,500 to five students pursuing accounting degrees.
Applicants are judged based on academic achievement, involvement in extracurricular activities, a personal letter of introduction, and financial need.
The five awardees for the 2022-2023 academic year include: Lindsay Emerson, who is currently attending the University of Hawaii at Hilo; Kacelyn Kubojiri, a 2022 Kamehameha High School graduate who will attend Pacific University; John Marrack, a 2021 Hilo High School graduate who is currently attending Santa Clara University; Kayla Okahara-Olsen, a 2022 Waiakea High School graduate who will attend Seattle University; and Amanda Slavey, a 2004 Hilo High School graduate who is currently attending Hawaii Community College.
HAPA is a statewide organization of accounting professionals that offers continuing professional education and fellowship among the business community.
The Big Island Chapter includes over 80 certified public accountants, public accountants, and associates.
HAPA scholarships are offered to encourage students to pursue careers in accounting and will again be offered for the 2023-2024 academic year.
