Florence Nanami “Nami” Miller, 83, of San Jose, California, formerly of Los Angeles and Papaikou, died April 24. Born in Hilo, she was retired from the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, an avid reader and music lover and alumna of Hilo High School Class of 1956 and Kalanianaole School Class of 1953, where she was a cheerleader and voted “Best Singer.” She will be buried with her parents, Annie Maika‘i Miller-Hayashi and Sakichi Hayashi in a casual graveside memorial service at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at Alae Cemetery. Survived by children, Renee Ann (Alex) Gurza and Nathan John Andrzejewski of San Jose; sisters, Jane Leite of Florida and Amy (Darien) Chung of San Gabriel, Calif.; a grandson; nieces and nephews.
Irene Ifuko Awong, 91, of Hilo died Aug. 26 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Kapapala, she was retired from Foodland and a member of Honomu Henjoji Mission.
