Big Island artists are invited to enter The Waimea Arts Council’s 38th Annual Founders Show to be held Sept. 30-Nov. 27 at the Firehouse Gallery in Waimea.

The popular juried art show is open to current and new members of the arts council.

First place is $300 with other award categories and amounts to be announced at a later date.

The opening reception will be from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, with a featured “Talk Story” with the jurors at 3 p.m.

Kanaka maoli Moses Kealamakia is an award-winning artist and teacher.

Mary Spears’ artwork has been featured in numerous shows throughout Hawaii; she is an active art instructor whose design work encompasses fabric to logo creation.

Smart Shark Designs Gallery owner and artist Martin Sanchez has been described as animated, quirky and bold like his paintings, bringing a colorful perspective to the judging table.

“I feel honored to be part of the jury team to select works of art to be seen by the public. The fact that all three of us artists are so different is super, super good,” said juror Moses Kealamakia.

Entries must be taken to the Firehouse Gallery in Waimea from Sept. 24-25.

The gallery is located at 67-1201 Mamalahoa Highway, Waimea.

The prospectus is available at www.waimeaartscouncil.org.
