Police have charged 40-year-old Shane Fann of Mountain View, with attempted murder and several firearm-related offenses following a violent altercation in Kopua Farm Lots subdivision on Monday night.
At 4 p.m. today, detectives charged Fann with attempted second-degree murder, being a felon in possession of a firearm, two counts of being a felon in possession of ammunition, use of a firearm in the commission of a separate felony, and carrying a loaded firearm on a public roadway
Fann’s bail is set at $1.15 million and he is scheduled to make his initial appearance Thursday in Hilo District Court.
According to police, officers responded shortly after 9:15 p.m. after the 42-year-old victim called to report he’d been shot and was driving himself to get treatment.
Police and Hawaii Fire Department personnel met the man in the parking lot of a convenience store in Mountain View.
The victim was taken via ambulance to the Hilo Medical Center with potentially life-threatening injuries. He was admitted and later upgraded to stable condition.
While officers were responding to the initial call, police dispatch received another call from a man who reported he had been involved in a shooting incident outside his residence on Waimaka O Pele Road in Kopua Farm Lots subdivision in Mountain View.
The man told police he’d been shot at and then returned fire.
Police responded to the residence on Waimaka O Pele Road and arrested Fann, who wasn’t injured.
According to court records, Fann was sentenced in 2010 on Kauai to five years probation and a year in jail for first-degree unauthorized entry to a motor vehicle and third-degree possession of a dangerous drug, both Class C felonies.
The most serious offense Fann is currently charged with, attempted second-degree murder, carries a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment with the possibility of parole, upon conviction.
