Benjamin Castillo Jr, 56, of Camarillo, Calif., died Sept. 17 in Los Angeles. Born in Kohala and raised in Hilo, he was retired from the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, was an adult correctional officer at Halawa Correctional Facility, U.S. Navy veteran and Naval Reserve retiree. Celebration of life 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at Calvary Community Church in Westlake Village, Calif. Oahu funersal service 10 a.m. Nov. 18 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Honolulu. Interment with military honors 2 p.m. at Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery in Kaneohe, Oahu. Survived by wife, Dina Castillo; son, Storm Castillo; mother, Dorothy Castillo; stepmother, Terri Castillo; grandmother, Frances Carreira; brothers, Gordon (Julie) Castillo, Michael Benevides and Brandon (Angel) Castillo; sisters, Denise Estrada, Cheryl (Ray) Moret and, Stacey Benevides; nieces and nephews.

Lorin Aiko Hanato, 56, of Honalo died June 21 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Kealakekua, she was a cosmetologist. Private services held. Survived by sons, Sky Valenzuela and Shadow Valenzuela of California, Sage Valenzuela of Texas; mother, Tamayo Hanato of Honalo; brother, Banyan Hanato of Honalo; sister, Wynn Hanato of Honalo; two grandchildren; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Derick Kembo Macanas, 58, of Pepeekeo died Aug. 15 at home. Born in Honolulu, he was an insurance adjuster for John Mullen and Co., Inc., and hunter and gatherer. Visitation 8:30-10 a.m. on Saturday (Oct. 8) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Memorial service at 10 a.m. Casual attire. Gordon James Mattos, 77, of Kekaha, Kauai, died Sept. 18 at home. Born in Hilo, he was a retiree of Pacific Missile Range Facility, U.S. Navy veteran and St. Joseph High School alumni. Visitation 8-9 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 8) at St. Theresa Catholic Church on Kauai. Mass at a.m. Private burial to follow. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Marlu West, 76, of Pahoa died Sept. 17 at home. She was the founder of Save the Sea Turtles International. Celebration of life at a later date.
