The the body of the captain of a 35-foot dive boat who had reportedly stayed on board as others dived was discovered Monday off Mahaiula Beach Park in North Kona.
The search for the missing man involved a county helicopter, a fast-response boat and a U.S. Coast Guard cutter, according to a statement by the Hawaii Fire Department.
The man’s body was spotted about 30 yards offshore by Fire Rescue personnel aboard the chopper.
His name hasn’t been released.
The incident, and the exact cause of the man’s death, is under investigation.
