Tomasa Martinez Valdez, 87, of Hilo, died Sept. 14 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Santa Ilocos Sur, Philippines, she worked for Miyashiro Poultry Farm and was a member of World Mission Center in Hilo. Visitation to be held from 8-9:30 a.m. Nov. 12 at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Funeral at 9:30 a.m. and burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park at 11:30 a.m. Survived by daughter Filomena (Carlos) Fernandez of Hilo; three grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.

Arnold Hajime Hara, 70, of Hilo, died Oct. 20 in Honolulu. Born in Hilo, he was an emeritus professor of entomology at the University of Hawaii in Manoa and a member of Hilo Meishoin and the Hawaiian Entomological Society. Private services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by wife Myrtle Hara of Hilo; daughters Kendra (Jason) Botelho of Hilo and Krislyn Hara of Honolulu; sister Lillian (Carl) Murakami of Honolulu; brothers-in-law Teruo Takeya of San Francisco, Herbert (Janet) Takeya of Kalaheo, Tom (Sandra) Takeya and Allan (Donna) Takeya, both of Hilo; sisters-in-law Gale Takeya of Hilo and Judy Takeya of Honolulu, granddaughters Winter and Cali Botelho of Hilo, and many uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews.

James Wenden Lott, 86, of Hilo, died Oct. 14 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Monterey Park, Calif., he was a U.S. Army veteran and a retired agriculture biologist for Ventura County in California. Private services. Survived by children James (Lynn) Lott of Arizona, David (Erika) Lott of California, and Lyndis (Solomon) Lott Farmer of Hilo; sister Marion Hurchar of Ariz., seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Solomon Naaieono Aikau III, 74, of Kamuela, died Oct. 2. Born on Maui, he was a lifeguard. Visitation to be held 4-6 p.m. Nov. 9 at Nuuanu Memorial Park and Mortuary, with funeral service at 6 p.m. Survived by sister Myra Aikau; brother Clyde Aikau; sons Kawika (Cathy) Sasaki, Arcas Aikau, Zane (Lori) Aikau, Kane Aikau, Kolo Aikau and Kepa Aikau; daughters Kamomi Kaho‘oilihala, Piilani (Kaipo) Ka‘alekahi, Kekai (Khamprasong) Hale-Aikau, Maile Boni, Christine Boni and Cheyanne Aikau; more than 60 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Arrangements by Nuuanu Memorial Park and Mortuary.

The memorial service for Kenneth “Ken” Apo Ah Lo of Hilo will be held at Joann’s Lounge Bar in Hilo from 1-5 p.m. on Nov. 5.
