Hawaii Police are investigating whether a man arrested Thursday is the same as a suspicious armed man reported in Waikoloa Village that led to a school lockdown.
According to a police news release, residents reported at 11:35 a.m. Thursday that a man dressed in green clothing was seen walking along Mahina Street with what appeared to be a rifle on a sling. Officers were unable to find a person matching that description after extensive checks in the area, but Waikoloa Elementary and Intermediate School initiated a lockdown.
After police determined there was no imminent threat to the school, the lockdown was lifted.
However, at 2:42 p.m. that day, police received another report of a man wearing a green bulletproof vest riding a bicycle through Waikoloa Village. When officers stopped the man, they discovered he was in possession of bullets that were not properly stored in an enclosed container.
The man, later identified as Noe Kim Raquinio, age 42, had a prior felony conviction that prohibits him from possessing ammunition and was arrested for two ammunition offenses. However, no firearms were located on his person.
Raquinio was released from custody after posting a $1,000 bail. Police are still unsure whether he is the same person from the original 11:35 a.m. call.
