With a larger supply of trees and a new location, the Y’s Men’s and Women’s Club Christmas Tree Fundraiser is back for another year.
The club doubled its order of trees this year and moved its fundraiser to the Butler Building next to the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium in Hilo.
Many of the 700 available trees have been purchased in advance online, but there are still plenty left for sale.
“All of the trees are so green and lush, and they all sit in water or a refrigerated truck,” said YMCA office manager Martha Rodillas. “Anyone can come on down to see what we have. We have small trees, larger trees, wreaths, as well as a delivery service.”
Volunteers from Hawaii Community College, the University of Hawaii at Hilo, Big Island Substance Abuse Council and the junior program at the YMCA all came together to help families select the perfect tree.
“This would not be possible without the effort of our volunteers and the community,” Rodillas said. “We are so thankful for everyone that comes out to help, and we’re happy to welcome the community to this happy space.”
The public can come to the Butler Building next to the civic from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday to browse and choose a Christmas tree while supplies last.
Fully shaped 3- to 10-foot Noble, Grand and Nordman firs; “elf” trees; and Noble wreaths are on sale. All proceeds support The Island of Hawaii YMCA community programs.
