During the week of Nov. 14-20, Hawaii Island police arrested 16 motorists for DUI. Two of the drivers were involved in a traffic accident. One was younger than 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were: Kona, nine; South Hilo, four; and Puna, three.
So far this year, there have been 877 DUI arrests compared to 960 during the same period last year, a decrease of 8.7%.
There have been 737 major accidents so far this year compared to 718 during the same period last year, an increase of 2.6%.
To date, there have been 33 official traffic fatalities compared to 25 fatalities for the same time last year an increase of 32%.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
