2 new COVID deaths reported in Hawaii County

The state Department of Health reported two new deaths from COVID-19 this week for Hawaii County, with seven new deaths statewide.

One man was listed between the ages of 50-59 who was hospitalized with an underlying condition. Another man over the age of 80 also was hospitalized with an underlying condition.

The two new deaths bring Hawaii County’s COVID-19 death toll to 222 people since the start of the pandemic, according to DOH data.

Hilo’s 96720 ZIP code continues to report the highest number of COVID-19 cases throughout the county, with 66 confirmed cases recorded over the past 14-day period.

So far, 230,090 state residents have received a bivalent booster, or 16.2% of the population.
