ERS brought together hundreds of seniors to celebrate the holidays and remind them that classes and activities are back in full swing throughout the county.
Seniors participated in 1950s-themed games and crafts while socializing and listening to live entertainment at Edith Kanaka‘ole Multi-Purpose Stadium.
“This is our first event like this since the COVID-19 pandemic, and it went so well,” said program director Iris Higa. “We’d love to do something like this regularly since it went off without a hitch and was so fun.”
Activities provided by the ERS staff include socialization and recreation at 24 senior centers established around the Big Island. The minimum age for participation is 55.
The fall schedule for senior classes through the Kamana Senior Center in Hilo, the Keaau Community Center, which services Puna and Ka‘u, and the West Hawaii Senior Center will end on Sunday, Dec. 11.
Those interested can begin registering for next sessions’ classes beginning Monday, Dec. 19. The session is set to begin next year on Monday, Jan. 9.
