The Pacific &Asian Affairs Council, a Hawaii-based nonprofit that is preparing the next generation of leaders for an increasingly interconnected world, has opened registration for its June 2023 Freeman Summer Study Tour to South Korea.
It is PAAC’s first South Korea Study
Tour since 2018 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition to cultural immersion, learning themes will include North Korea/South Korea relations, the “miracle” on the Han River (South Korea’s economic rise), the “Korean Wave” (global pop culture explosion), political/social/economic power dynamics, and more.
The study tour will be 12 days, including travel, in early June 2023 and is open to 18 students in grades 9-12 from any high school across Hawaii.
All students with demonstrated financial need or a commitment to PAAC programs will receive PAAC scholarships to offset the estimated $4,500 (before scholarships) in costs per person, which includes airfare, transportation, lodging, activities and most meals.
Applications are due by 5 p.m. HST on Sunday, Dec. 18, by visiting paachawaii.org/study-tours-abroad.
Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated commitment to PAAC programs, including the Global Leadership Program, PAAC Clubs, after-school global studies classes, and more.

Founded in 1954, the PAAC is an independent, international education nonprofit with a mission to promote understanding and empower engagement on global and international issues with special attention to Hawaii’s role in the Asia-Pacific region.
