Wailoa Center in Hilo and the Hawaii Island Art Alliance are taking applications from local Hawaii Island sculptors with their proposals for the new “sculpture garden” outside Wailoa Center’s lower lanai area doors.
There are four areas available to install outdoor sculptures made of durable, weather-resistant materials. Sculptures will be installed to a secured anchor — a concrete base with bolts that are already in place.
The anchor specifications will be given on request.
Artists will be responsible for the installation of their sculpture. Artists also agree to abide by guidelines provided by the Wailoa Center coordinator. In addition, agree to abide by all policies governing State of Hawaii buildings.
The selection committee’s goal is to curate a cohesive body of 3-D artwork either from one artist or four. The contract will allow the art to remain in its location for up to one year.
Sculptures can be for sale through Hawaii Island Art Alliance.
Artists interested in applying for this opportunity should contact Wailoa Center at wailoaartculturalcenter@gmail.com or call (808) 933-0416 to request the application. The application will also be posted on Wailoa Center’s website, www.wailoacenter.com.
Applications must be submitted by Thursday, Dec. 22.
