A 32-year-old Mountain View man wanted by police and after allegedly fleeing the scene of a traffic stop in mid-August has been apprehended and charged with numerous felonies.

Daesyn Pacheco-Muragin allegedly was carrying a loaded firearm — a loaded .44 magnum caliber rifle —when stopped Aug. 15 on Volcano Highway.

Pacheco-Muragin was on felony probation at the time and was the subject of a police wanted bulletin on Nov. 19 related to a warrant issued for his arrest in the current case.

He was arrested Wednesday and charged with illegally carrying a loaded firearm, carrying or possessing a loaded firearm on a public highway, three counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm and/or ammunition, methamphetamine possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving without a license.

The most serious charges are all Class B felonies that carry a potential 10-year prison term.

Pacheco-Muragin is both a persistent and multiple offender and may be subject to extended terms of imprisonment, according to the criminal complaint filed against him.

The document states Pacheco-Muragin has been convicted of 12 Class C felony charges dating back to 2002. They are four counts of auto theft, unauthorized entry to a motor vehicle, second-degree theft, second-degree burglary, unauthorized entry to a motor vehicle, third-degree promotion of a dangerous drug, and first-degree terroristic threatening.

County Prosecutor Kelden Waltjen said that if Pacheco-Muragin is convicted as charged, he faces a mandatory prison sentence and won’t be eligible for probation.

Bail for Pacheco-Muragin was set at $136,000, and he was scheduled to make his initial appearance Thursday in Hilo Circuit Court.
