James Nobuichi Hanano, 93, of Kapaau died Dec. 26 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Born in Kohala, he retired from Hawaii Preparatory Academy, worked for the former Kohala Sugar and was a Boy Scouts of America scoutmaster, Hawaii National Guard veteran and member of St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church. Survived by sons, Jason (Stephanie) Hanano of Hawi and Keven (Cynthia) Hanano of Lihue, Kauai; daughter, Jennifer (John) Colson of Kapaau and Kaky (Geoy) Purdy of Waimea; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild; nieces and nephews.
