The Big Island Press Club has assembled a panel revolving around the flow of information before, during and after the recent eruption of Mauna Loa for its “Newsmaker Luncheon” this month.
Featured on the all-star panel are Ken Hon, the scientist-in-charge of the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory for USGS, Talmadge Magno, Civil Defense administrator for Hawaii County, Jessica Ferracane, public affairs specialist for Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Chris Leonard, president/general manager at New West Broadcasting Corp., and Dane DuPont and Phil Ong, who drive the content of “Hawaii Tracker,” a social media site.
Panelists will share their insights about the recent eruption and lessons learned that can be applied for future natural disasters impacting the island.
The event is 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 25, at Restaurant Kenichi (684 Kilauea Ave.) in Hilo.
The event is BYOB; BIPC Board members are donating wine and beer to the event, free with luncheon while supplies last.
Guests are requested to park in the county lot across the street at Aupuni Center, as parking is limited near the restaurant.
Tickets for this event are $30 for members and $40 for nonmembers. The lunch will include a buffet menu. Non-alcoholic beverages are also included.
Space is limited, so reserve early by visiting www.bigislandpressclub and selecting “News & Events.”
