Wildcats split results against Kohala
The Konawaena varsity baseball team shut out Kohala High School 10-0, while the Wildcats’ softball team fell 9-7 to the Cowgirls Wednesday evening.
Konawaena’s baseball team was led at the plate by Jaeden Meyers, who went four-for-four to score a run and bat three in. Taven Hiraishi batted two-for-three, scoring two runs, one RBI and leading the Wildcats in slugging with a triple and a double.
Hiraishi also started on the mound, fanning three and surrendering two hits in his two innings. AJ Blanco relieved Hiraishi and pitched two innings to notchtwo strikeouts and allow no hits or walks. Koa Nakagawa pitched one inning to close the door, adding two more strikeouts.
Now 7-1 overall and 5-0 in BIIF Division II play, Konawaena will face its final non-division test at 1 p.m. tomorrow at home — against Division I leader Hilo High School. Next week, the Wildcats will battle Kamehameha Schools – Hawai‘i for dominance of Division II.
The Wildcats’ softball team struggled back and forth with Kohala, until the top sixth when the Cowgirls drove in four runs — boosted by a three-run homer by Jaylah Kekoa — to overcome Konawaena’s two-point lead.
The Wildcats scored seven runs on just one hit and one walk, taking advantage of errors throughout the game.
Kekoa led Kohala in the box, going three-for-four to score three runs and bat in four — hitting two doubles and a home run.
Konawaena, now 6-8 overall and 2-3 in Division II, will host Hilo at 11 a.m. Saturday for its final game of the season.
Cougars defeat Daggers
The Kea‘au High School varsity softball team beat Pahoa High School 16-12 at an away, non-division outing Wednesday afternoon.
The Cougars will play their final regular season game next Saturday at Honoka‘a High School.
Tomorrow at 11 a.m., the Daggers will host Waiakea High School. On Thursday, Pahoa will host Ka‘u High School for its final DII outing— then will have its senior game the next day against Hilo.
Water polo results
Several BIIF varsity water polo teams went head-to-head at KSH’s Nae‘ole Pool on Wednesday afternoon and evening.
First, Hilo defeated Kea‘au 14-7. In the next match, KSH beat Waiakea 16-6.
The final match of the meet saw Waiakea bounce back with a 22-6 win over Kea‘au.
On Saturday morning, the three aforementioned teams — along with Hawai‘i Prep — wil reconvene at KSH for another meet.
The first rounds of the BIIF playoffs will begin in less than two weeks.
