KSH splits
with Waiakea
Kamehameha Schools – Hawai‘i and Waiakea High School’s varsity baseball and softball teams capped off their regular seasons with outings at KSH on Saturday.
KSH’s softball team wrapped up on a high note with a 10-1 victory, scoring six runs in the third after lagging 1-0 until then.
Emily Hora led KSH at the plate — going three-for-four and also dominating on the mound, allowing just two hits and a walk for one earned run in seven innings, striking out seven.
Waiakea’s baseball team also recorded a memorable season finish, blowing out KSH 14-0.
Toren Segovia Tanonaka went two for two with two walks, tripling to bat in three in the top sixth.
Lucas Yamanaka started on the mound for Waiakea, pitching three innings and allowing one hit and a walk. Gavin Nishida came in for two innings and was named the winning pitcher, surrendering three walks and a hit.
Waiakea had a perfect day in the field, led by Kaleb Wada with three putouts and two assists, and Clemson Julian with three putouts.
All four aforementioned teams will begin BIIF playoffs this week. KSH softball will enter the DII bracket at No.1, and Waiakea will enter DI in the top seed. In baseball, KSH is seeded No. 2 for DII and Waiakea is seeded No.2 for DI.
Volleyball action
While baseball and softball are wrapping up, boys varsity volleyball is still rolling through the late season.
On Saturday, Waiakea and KSH faced off for the second time — with KSH winning 3-1.
KSH was led by the hitting of Kullen Pua with 13 kills followed by Nauhikapakea Liwis and Andrew Boshard with 10 each. KSH (9-0) will next play away today at 5 p.m. against Kea‘au High School.
On Friday, Hawai‘i Prep emerged victorious, 3-1, in a tight battle against Christian Liberty Academy.
After Ka Makani won the first set 25-23, the Canefire bounced back with a 25-23 win. HPA then won the next two sets 25-23 and 25-20.
Both teams will now await playoff seedings.
In their final regular season outings, Honoka‘a High School and Makua Lani Christian battled to the fifth set — with the Dragons taking the win on Friday.
Honoka‘a won the first set 25-20 before Makua Lani won the next two 25-23 and 25-23 again.
The Dragons held on with a fourth-set blowout of 25-12 and took the win 15-9 in the fifth.
Konawaena High School and Ka ‘Umeke also wrapped up their seasons as the Wildcats won 3-1 Friday night.
Also on Friday, Ka‘u High School swept Laupahoehoe PCS by scores of 25-18, 25-9 and 25-12.
Tyson Junior Kuahuia-Faafia led the Trojans with 11 kills, three aces and a block.
