LITCHFIELD PARK, Arizona – After two rounds of play at the 2023 Pacific West Conference Championships, the UH-Hilo men’s and women’s golf teams remained among the top teams in the tournament.
On the men’s side, the Vulcans maintained their spot atop the team leaderboard and improved on their Day-1 lead by one stroke at a plus-three score for an 11-shot advantage.
Both freshman Junsu Im and fifth-year senior Andrew Otani are locked up for a tie at the No. 1 spot with a two-under score. Seniors Dustin Franko and Keith Ng follow at a tie for 10th with a plus-five score.
All four birdie’d three times in the second round.
Nicholas Gomez lurks close behind at No. 19 at 11-strokes over par.
Dominican swapped spots with Holy Names as the Penguins sit at No. 2 (plus-14) and the Hawks at No. 3 (plus-17).
On the women’s side, the Vulcans dropped a spot to No. 5 in the team standings after shooting a 323 second round to fall to a plus-63 total — 14 strokes behind Holy Names at the top.
Freshman Kiersten Saludares stayed at No. 3 with just one shot behind leaders Jae Eun Park (Academy of Art) and Tabetha Kang (Point Loma Nazarene). Saludares finished with two birdies in the second round but was set back by a triple bogey on the 14th hole and a double bogey on the 17th.
Tia Kuali‘i and Elle Otani sit at plus-18 total for a tie at No. 18 followed closely by Trinity Ledgerwood at No. 20 (plus-19).
The final results of the tournament will be published in the Friday edition of the Tribune-Herald, but will be available online by today at thepacwest.com.
