HCCC escapee recaptured Saturday

PAULO-LESLIE

A multiagency manhunt has resulted in the arrest of a Hawaii Community Correctional Center inmate who escaped from the facility Friday evening.

At about 1:04 p.m. Saturday afternoon, 27-year-old Dyllan Kaiehu Paulo-Leslie was taken into custody following an extensive manhunt that tracked him down to the riverbed of the Wailuku River behind Hilo High School.

After his arrest, Paulo-Leslie was taken to Hilo Medical Center for treatment of injuries he sustained as a result of scaling razor-wire while escaping HCCC and jumping from the roof of the facility.

After receiving medical treatment, Paulo-Leslie was returned to HCCC, where he’s been incarcerated on charges of attempted murder, robbery and terroristic threatening stemming from an incident that occurred in November 2022.

He is being held without bail for those charges.
