Victim in fatal sword attack identified

Police have identified the 58-year-old Orchidland Estates woman who was slashed to death with a sword Friday afternoon at her own home as Teri Lynn Apple.

A forensic pathologist concluded after an autopsy Tuesday that Apple died as a result of multiple chop wounds and sharp-forced injuries, and ruled the manner of death was homicide.

The suspect, 52-year-old Christopher Roy Howlind, is believed to have ingested a toxic liquid before police arrived on the scene, and he remains hospitalized in stable condition. Due to Howlind’s medical status, he hasn’t yet been charged.

Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to call the police department’s nonemergency number at (808) 935-3311 or Crime Stoppers at (808) 961-8300.
