The “10x10x10 Artist’s Challenge” gallery is open to the community at the Wailoa Center in Hilo through Thursday, May 25.

The gallery features creations by artists who were challenged to create an installation using only 10 specific materials.

Focused on the creative process rather than the final product, this challenge pushes artists to learn and adapt as they transform common household materials.

The art challenge started in 2016 with 10 artists using 10 materials to transform 10 spaces of the main gallery.

This year, Wailoa is featuring 15 alumni with three new artists: Samadi Ishaya, Trina Nahm-Mijo and Dena Nakahashi.

Alumni artists featured in the gallery are Charlene Asato, Wendy Barske, Lahela Camara, Leigh Critchlow, Janet Dellaria, Bob Douglas, Shelley Hanaoka, Codie King, Jeffery Kurash, Emily Leucht, Trudee Siemann, Karrieanne Warren, Patrick Warren, Jay West and Robin Worley.

The goal of this exhibit is for the participating artists to explore their own creative process, to problem-solve as they transform common materials into art, and to manifest their final idea as an installation in a specific space.

Visitors are invited to this pure expression of creativity on display at Wailoa Center.

The gallery is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
