The beginning of hurricane season next month is a reminder for all Hawaii residents to have a disaster plan and disaster kit or to refresh and restock their disaster plans and kits.
That’s why AARP Hawaii is holding a free webinar on how to “Prepare Your Home for Hurricane Season” at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 1.
“It’s especially important that kupuna and caregivers who take care of older adults be prepared before a storm or other disaster strikes,” the nonprofit said in a press release.
To register and get a Zoom link to the webinar, go to the AARP Hawaii website at aarp.org/hi or the AARP Hawaii Facebook page and search for and click on the Upcoming Events tab. The tab lists all the events AARP is offering and links for registration.
Dennis Hwang, lead author of the “Homeowner’s Handbook to Prepare for Natural Hazards,” will lead the webinar, which is aimed at teaching participants what they can do today, ahead of a major storm, to prepare themselves, their families and their homes for survival of a hurricane or other natural disaster.
People who do not have a disaster plan or emergency supplies will learn what to
do, and those who have a plan and supplies will learn if their plan and supplies are up to date.
