The Wailoa Center in Hilo and the Hawaii Island Art Alliance have announced that the 6th Annual MidSummer Art Celebration will be on display from Friday until June 28.
There will be an opening reception for the exhibit from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday.
During the exhibit, the center will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The exhibit will be open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday and will feature Juror Gallery Tours from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., along with live art demonstrations by other MidSummer artists.
The MidSummer Art Celebration is an open invitation to Hawaii artists, with no restraint on medium or subject.
This year’s exhibit features over 100 works from 65 Hawaii artists selected by juror Carl F. K. Pao.
In selecting works for MidSummer, Pao said “I will be looking for works that first grab my attention: bold colors, strong composition, provocative subject matter, etc. Next the work needs to hold my attention. The work needs to have me question its place and relevance. Finally, I take all of that in and decide which ones want me to come back to them for more.”
Pao’s own work will be on display in the downstairs Fountain Gallery during the exhibit.
From jewelry to paintings, sculptures to furniture, portraits to landscapes, there is sure to be something for everyone.
