The 2023 Summer Reading Challenge hosted by the Hawaii State Library starts today for all ages.
For every 60 minutes of reading time that participants log online weekly through July 31, they will have a chance to win several prizes including four roundtrip tickets to anywhere Alaska Airlines flies.
This year’s theme is “E Heluhelu Kakou: Seeds of Knowledge,” which will focus on celebrating the people, environment, cultural heritage, literature, history, foods and arts of Hawaii.
A program called Beanstack will be used to log the reading minutes, and more information on how to register can be found at https://tinyurl.com/putfwjvy.
Libraries also will be hosting a variety of cultural events for all ages throughout the summer due to a partnership with the University of Hawaii’s Statewide Cultural Extension Program and the state Department of Land and Natural Resources.
Hawaii Island events include the Mu‘olaulani Hula Performance in Naalehu on Friday and an erhu performance by Sun-Hui Hung in Pahala on Tuesday, June 6.
