GREENSBORO, North Carolina – UH-Hilo shortstop Casey Yamauchi was named to the 2023 American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings NCAA Division II West All-Region Second Team as announced Wednesday morning.
The fifth-year Hilo native was one of seven infielders to earn recognition as part of the 19-player Second Team.
Yamauchi finished the 2023 season with a .932 fielding percentage, notching 68 putouts and 111 assists. He recorded a season high four putouts against HPU during a conference outing in April and seven assists in an early season matchup against Augustana in February.
Yamauchi was also previously named as a National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-West Region Honorable Mention in addition to earning All-PacWest Second Team honors.
Led by the ABCA NCAA Division II All-America Committee, all eight All-Region Teams were voted on by ABCA members as Point Loma Nazarene’s Jakob Christian and Cal Poly Pomona’s Caleb Reyes were named West Region Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively. Only All-Region First-Team selections are eligible for All-America honors to be announced June 2. ABCA Region All-Defensive Teams and ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Teams will be released June 19 and 21, respectively.
The ABCA, founded in 1945, is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 15,000 members represent all 50 states and 40 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include nine divisions: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School, Youth and Travel Baseball.
