The Halau Lamaku Summer Enrichment Program at ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center kicked off this week in Hilo.
Halau Lamaku, sponsored by the Ama OluKai Foundation, signifies “light” or “enlightenment” and evokes learning, knowledge and understanding.
The five weeklong sessions engage young explorers in activities, crafts, games, outdoor exploration and observation grounded in Hawaiian culture, science and art.
In each session, the keiki will participate in four featured learning styles.
Students learn through hands-on and verbal activities and are given time in the planetarium. They also have allotted time each day to let loose and get to know each other during outdoor free play.
Registration for all summer sessions has closed, and every session is full, but more information about future programs can be found at imiloahawaii.org.
