Police are investigating a possible drowning involving a 53-year-old Ocean View man that occurred near the “Hoist” area of South Point on Friday afternoon.
Officers responded shortly after 4:30 p.m. to a report of a swimmer in distress near the Kalae Cove Park, also known as the “Hoist,” at South Point. Bystanders brought the distressed swimmer to shore and began CPR until Hawaii Fire Department personnel arrived on scene.
Attempts to resuscitate the man were unsuccessful.
Police are withholding the victim’s name pending notification of the family.
A coroner’s inquest investigation has been opened and an autopsy ordered to determine the exact cause of death.
