Waiakea High School’s boys golf team will attend the PGA High School Golf National Invitational next week in Frisco, Texas.

The Warriors — Dysen Park, Ryder Ng, Jake Otani, Noah Otani, Mike Lopez and Coach Alika Toledo — earned a spot in the tournament by winning the HHSAA State Championship in May.

This will be Waiakea’s first time ever attending the national invitational, which was held for the first time in 2019.

Roughly 500 golfers from all 50 states are expected to compete in the boys and girls tournaments.

The Boys Invitational is a three-day, 54-hole stroke play event including team and individual competition. It begins next Monday and ends next Wednesday.

Competition rounds will take place on the PGA Frisco campus, a brand new facility with two championship golf courses.

The World Amateur Golf Rankings will recognize the Invitational. WAGR coverage includes more than 10,000 players from 102 countries — and more than 4,000 ranking tournaments played in 104 countries.

The National Invitational will be recognized by the Junior Golf Scoreboard. The Junior Golf Scoreboard typically receives results for over 2,100 tournaments worldwide and ranks approximately 10,000 to 11,000 players at any one time. The JGS is the foremost used junior golf ranking system by varsity college golf coaches since 1998.

AJGA PBE points will be awarded to the top finishers for both the Boys &Girls Invitational. Historically, the Top 15 finishers of the High School National Invitational have received Performance Stars according to their respective places.

Last year, Maui Prep attended the tourney and tied for No. 25 with Colorado’s representative team.
