Maximum sustained winds are about 120 mph with locally higher gusts. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 115 miles.

Calvin is moving toward the west near 16 mph. A west to west-northwest motion at a similar forward speed is expected during the next several days.

Some additional strengthening is possible today. Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center in Miami, however, expect the storm to weaken, starting Saturday and continuing through early next week.

If the currently forecast track continues, Calvin should enter the Central Pacific early Monday morning as a tropical storm.
