The Hawaii Island United Hongwanji Buddhist Women’s Association presented $1,000 scholarships to Tevin Atwal and Sienna Chanhmany in recognition of their academic excellence and participation in temple, school and community activities.
Tevin Atwal is a Waiakea High School graduate and a Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin member. He will attend the University of Santa Clara, majoring in science and engineering.
Atwal is the son of Jill Atwal and Money Atwal and grandson of Ronald and Netlie Yokoyama.
Sienna Chanhmany graduated from Waiakea High School and attends Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin. She is enrolled at the University of California at Santa Cruz, where she will major in business management.
Chanhmany is the daughter of Nyssa Kushi and Phonephet Chanhmany and the granddaughter of Herbert and Theo Kushi.
