Kumi Nishimura, 80, of Hilo died June 27 at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. Born in Jinan, China, and raised in Japan, she studied astronomy at Nagoya University, earned a PhD at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Germany, and worked as a researcher and teacher in Tuscon, Ariz. at Pima Community College and the University of Arizona. She enjoyed ballet and music. Private celebration of life at a later date.
