The Hilo Woman’s Club has announced its 2023-24 scholarship winners.

Two $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to Denver Branco and Ema Shearin, both of Hilo, to help cover tuition and education expenses.

Branco’s goal is to continue her educational career this coming 2023 school year at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.

“This scholarship will help me pursue my dream and goal of becoming a nurse and the ability to give back to my community,” said Branco in her response to winning the award.

Shearin, a 2022-23 winner of the scholarship, has won again this year.

She reports she’s doing very well, continuing her studies and participating in Hilo Woman’s Club events and fundraisers.

“Because of the Hilo Woman’s Club, I will be able to afford to continue pursuing my undergraduate degree in marine science at UH-Hilo,” wrote Shearin upon her award acceptance.

Hilo Woman’s Club awards scholarships every spring from funds raised through community events.

The scholarship committee, this year headed by Shirley Woods, chose the winners after the application process took place.
