The Volcano Art Center has announced the upcoming exhibit, “Conversations: Spirit and Nature,” is opening this Saturday and will continue through Aug. 19 at the Volcano Art Center’s Niaulani Campus at 19-4074 Old Volcano Road in Volcano Village.

The show is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. The exhibit will also be featured online at www.volcanoartcenter.org.

This three-week event features a group exhibition showcasing the art work of Charlene Asato, Lisa Louise Adams, Roslyn Moresh, Leslie Laird and Robin Scanlon. This group of artists originally began meeting and making books together.

They also pursue many other forms of expression and derive inspiration from the multi-faceted cultures present in Hawaii and from their love of the aina.

The multimedia exhibition held in Dietrich Varez Hall at Hale Ho‘omana at the Niaulani Campus features original watercolor paintings, collage, handmade books and quilts.

In addition to the exhibition, the participating artists are instructing an “Exploration in Book Making” workshop on from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12

Join this talented group of women in creating unique art pages utilizing printing, collage and textile techniques and binding them.

Two binding styles will be explored: the piano hinge and the slip knot technique. Workshop fee is $65 ($55 for VAC members) plus a $15 supply fee. Registration is required. Register online at www.volcanoartcenter.org or call (808) 967-8222 to reserve your space.
